It’s Feature Friday! As I wept my way through the last episode of Downton Abbey this season, not for the events that transpired in the lives of the Crowley’s, for the fact that I was no longer going to get my weekly fix of fashion, design and love for all things vintage. Just look at them, I mean, Wow! What is there not to love?
Since my first love, Downton, has decided to rip my heart out and force me to wait for what feels like an eternity for its return, I find myself counting down the days until I can view the Great Gatsby on the big screen! I read on the Architectural Digest that it took the set design team 14 weeks to get the Gatsby house just right, I think all Gatsby goers are going to want a little bit of Daisy in their lives.
The set of Daisy Buchanan’s sitting room is sure to inspire many brides and grooms this upcoming wedding season. The parlor design would make an amazing back drop for a photo shoot, then turn lounge for guests to sip on whiskey cocktails. You could even look to serve prohibition era type drinks if you want to really go all in on the theme.
Weddings in 2014 are sure to transport us back in time and expose us to the mystique of New York style during the 1920’s. The vintage outdoors theme will remain, but the décor will shift to an elegant and refined feel, versus a natural earthy aesthetic. Doilies will win in the battle with burlap. Dresses are going to be more formal with a modest sophisticated edge and lots of lace. Brides are going to spice things up with a whimsical coifed hair style, lace cuffs, dramatic head pieces and bright lipstick. They are going to add a pop of individual style with color in their shoes. Oh and did I mention pearls, pearls, and more pearls? Bridesmaids will complement their bride in flapper style dresses that are made to dance. Grooms will be ever so classy and emulate Gatsby and his elegant party guests. Check out the photos below to get a sense of the trend.
